Frankenstein Appearance and Acceptance - 1412 Words

centerbReliance on Appearance and Dependency upon Acceptance in Mary Shelleys Frankenstein and Todays Modern World./b/center br brOne of the main themes in Mary Shelleys Frankenstein is the importance of appearance and acceptance in modern society. In todays society, and also in the society of Frankenstein, people judge one often solely on their looks. Social prejudice is often based on looks, whether it be the color of someones skin, the clothes that a person wears, the facial features that one has and even the way one stands. People make snap judgments based on these and other considerations and they affect the way that they present themselves to one, and also the way that the treat the judged person. In Frankenstein the†¦show more content†¦Numerous accounts of hate of the monster just because of his frightful appearance follow this, including the villagers throwing rocks and driving away the monster (Shelley 91), the crushing blow to the creatures emotions when Felix drove him away (Shelley 119-120) and final straw before the creature turned against humanity, when the man shot the monster after h e had saved a girls life (Shelley 126). How very little has changed since then! Today when one is driving in our own fair city, Prince George, one sees a native man late at night and automatically assumes that he is a drunk. Or perhaps on seeing an older woman in high fashion dresses, one soon thinks he stuck up solely on her looks. In a more extreme example, think of the movie The Elephant Man where an extremely disfigured man tried to fit into mainstream society and ends up in a carnival, and later as a medical showcase. But deep inside Jerry Merrick, as the elephant man was then called, is an ideal citizen, caring and virtuous. Lastly closer to home, in any given public high school, one instantly and almost unknowingly classifies students into separate categories of Prep, Pothead, Jock, Cowboy, Skater, Slut, Goth, and other classifications as well. If one tries getting acquainted with these people, it is often find that they are, like Frankensteins monster, are very nice people. br brOne moreShow MoreRelated Appearance and Acceptance in Frankenstein and the Modern World1351 Words   |  6 PagesAppearance and Acceptance in Frankenstein and the Modern World       One of the main themes in Mary Shelleys Frankenstein is the importance of appearance and acceptance in modern society. Kidney Transplant Free Essays

In life a person may do something that he never expected he will do, or that he may ever imagine he will have the courage to do.   However, life as the poem â€Å"You mustn’t Quit! aptly said,     is full of many â€Å"twists and turns,’’ and   a person may   find himself in a place where he   had to make a decision at the risks of his own life   in order to save others ( Anonymous 2001).This may sound heroic but I never thought it that way, all I knew was that it was my duty When I was 2 years old, my father was diagnosed with glomerulonephritis, which is a type of kidney disease. We will write a custom essay sample on Kidney Transplant or any similar topic only for you Order Now    Due to the fact that we lived in Scranton Pasadena and they did not have dialysis machines to treat my father, we moved to Bronx, New York.   The year was 1968.   My mother, father, brother and I packed up and flew the coop to the Bronx.   There we were informed that my father’s condition was grave and he was not expected to live very long which was quite tragic considering that he was only in his mid 20’s. As days progressed, the     glomerulonephritis caused his blood pressure to soar so high resulting in the detachment of retina in both eyes, leaving him blind. Just imagine how hard it must have been for my mother who was still young and was forced to face with being in a new city, with a very sick, blind husband and two small children. My father had a brother, who was a priest, and a twin sister.   Both were tested for a kidney transplant for my father, and both were great matches.   For some reason, they both declined to donate to him.   Which, was quite cruel, considering they had been tested and type matched.   I remember him calling them, begging for a kidney, but they both refused.   My uncle the priest claimed it was too risky for him.   My aunt, my father’s twin, said she wanted to have more children, and felt the risk was too high for her. We were angry and at the same time disappointed over their decision. My father was on dialysis 4 to 5 days a week for 6 to 8 hours at a time at the VA (Veterans Administration) Hospital in Bronx.   He was a big man. At 6’4† he was about 240 pounds before his illness but then he was becoming thinner and thinner.   Yet he remained optimistic and happy.   He learned to make his way around the Bronx.   That is no small feat for the seeing person, let alone a blind man. My brother and I, on the other hand, were in school while my mother spent most days taking care of my father.   We were lucky enough to find an apartment right next door to the hospital.   Our relatives from Scranton visited often.   My father got progressively worse.   In 1974, the Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton opened their own dialysis unit.   My father was thrilled!   We packed up and moved back to Scranton.   It was quite and adjustment, but worth it to be close to family! Thankfully, my father was a veteran.   He was in the Army National Guard before his illness.   The VA paid for all his treatments and care.   Being blind, they knew he could not drive himself to the hospital, so they paid a taxi company to take him anywhere he wanted to go even driving him to Old Forge to visit my grandparents. He was always assigned the same cab driver. One Saturday in 1977, the taxi cab my father was in was hit and it crashed into a telephone pole.   Everyone survived, except my frail father who was hurt badly. He broke nearly every bone in his body.   We did not think he would make it through the night.   Thanks to the grace of God, he did live.   However, he never fully recovered.   As a matter of fact, he spent the next three years in the Moses Taylor hospital long term care unit.     Ã‚  The VA hired full time, around the clock nurses to take care of him.   They became like family.   They cared for my father from 1977 to May 20, 1980, when my father’s poor body finally gave in and he died. It was around that time that my brother Andrew started to lose weight.   He went to the doctor and went through a series of tests.   We worried, but were not out of control with fear.   Then the horrible news came, Andrew also had glomerulonephritis.   My poor mother was heartbroken!   I was petrified and my brother was numb when he learned he had the same disease that took my fathers life.   No immediate action was needed.   Andrew was told to live normally until his condition became worse. Imagine being told that! However, I made it through my junior year of high school without any real trauma.   Then in the beginning of my senior year, Andrew’s condition worsened.   He now needed dialysis.   It was the worst thing that could have happened to our family.   Andrew was on dialysis only 2 days a week for only 2 to 4 hours.   Still a draining experience, Andrew suffered.   When I turned 18, I called my brother’s doctor and asked about donating a kidney to my brother.   I was told it was a long process, but it indeed could be done if we were a match.   I approached Andrew with my idea and he was scared but thrilled. We made a â€Å"secret† appointment for a blood test.   We were a perfect match as far as blood type was concerned.   When we told my mother, she was not sure whether to be happy or scared!   She had one sick kid and one healthy kid and now they were both about to be operated on!   It took about 4 months for the testing to be completed at Geisinger Hospital in Danville PA.   We were a perfect match!   I was thrilled!   Andrew was thrilled!   My mother was petrified!   The operation was to take place on July 17, 1984.   They said the greater risk was for the donor-me!   I was 18!   I was healthy and full of life!   I was a bold and brazen kid!   I was full steam ahead!   The transplant went off without a hitch. I was out of the hospital after a week.   I had 32 staples in my stomach and I felt great!   By the end of the second day, Andrew looked great!   His color had returned!   He was energetic!   His was urinating like a champ!   He was required to stay in the hospital for 3 weeks, until they regulated his anti-rejection medication.   That was 23 years ago.   Andrew is still on anti-rejection medication, but leads a full life.   He is 45 years old.   Andrew is married and has two wonderful little boys.   He has a brand new house in Yatesville and his own mortgage business. It was the greatest thing I could ever imagine doing in my life.   My father was on dialysis for 17 years.   It not only kept him alive, but it also sucked the life out of him.   Andrew was on dialysis for only 7 months.   My mother is still a nervous wreck, but we are all doing fine.   We are quite the family.   Imagine seeing both of your children being wheeled away for an operation at the same time!   I am surprised she survived.   Just for the record, my aunt and my uncle the priest not only cried when my father died, but they also came to visit me and Andrew in the hospital after the transplant.   I harbor ill feelings toward them.   I suspect I always will. Finding the Activation Energy Between Hydrochloric Acid an Sodium Thiosulfate free essay sample

Finding the Activation Energy of the reaction between Hydrochloric Acid and Sodium Thiosulfate The equation for the reaction is: S2O32- (aq) + 2H+(aq) ? SO2 (g) + S(s) + H2O (l) Equipment 2 boiling tubes 400 cm3 beakers Marker pen Stand and clamp Timer Bunsen burner, tripod and gauze 0 – 100 oC thermometer 2 x 10 cm3 measuring cylinders Access to a fume cupboard. Method 1. Label two boiling tubes A and B. Mark a dark spot on the side of a 400cm3 beaker, then ? fill it with water. Clamp tube A and immerse in the water bath as shown in the diagram above. 2. Using a measuring cylinder, transfer 10cm3 of sodium thiosulfate solution to tube A. 3. Using a clean measuring cylinder, transfer 10cm3 of hydrochloric acid to tube B and place the tube in the beaker of water. 4. Allow both solutions to reach thermal equilibrium with the water in the beaker for a few minutes. 5. Add the solution from tube B to that in tube A, starting a timer as you do so. 8. Using a Bunsen burner to gently heat the water bath, and/or use ice to cool the water bath repeat steps 2 – 7 until you have 5 sets of results at five different temperatures. The first will be at room temperature and the other four evenly spaced between zero degrees celcius and about 50oC (try not to exceed this temperature). 9. Record your results in a suitable manner. Processing Data To work out Average Time: Add all trail results for one specific temperature together and divide by the number of trials done for this drop height (in this case 3 for every temperature) eg. the average Time height for the temperature of 44Â °C is (29+29+30)? 3 = 29. 3333333 To work out Uncertainty on the Time: Find the highest and lowest values of the time taken for each temperature. Add the uncertainty on the time taken to the highest value and minus the uncertainty on the time taken from the lowest value. Minus the new smallest value from the highest value to find the range, divide this range by two to find the uncertainty eg. The highest and lowest time values taken for the 52Â °C temperature was 22 and 20 seconds. This then becomes 23cm and 19cm when you add and minus the uncertainty on the time taken from the maximum and minimum values respectively. Then largest value minus smallest value: 23-19= 4, diving this value by two= 4? 2= 2 which is the uncertainty on the averaged time taken for the 52Â °C temperature. To round the average time taken: The averaged time taken must be rounded to the same number of decimal places as the uncertainty eg. The time taken for the temperature of 52Â °C is 20. 33333333seconds and the uncertainty is 2seconds, the averaged time taken is therefore rounded to 20. The complete value is now 20Â ±2 seconds At higher temperatures the experiment speeds up and reaches an endpoint quicker because an increase of temperature means an increase in average kinetic energy of the particles involved in the reaction. This in turns increases the chance of particles colliding with enough speed and force to set off the reaction and more collisions means a quicker reaction. Improvements on the Experiment One major issue in this experiment is how to determine when the cross is obscured. To combat this in the next time doing this experiment I would suggest the use of a calorimeter, to calculate the exact moment the cross is obscured. To improve the temperature issue I would measure the temperature of the reactants of the experiment rather than the temperature of the water bath around it, this would make the temperature of the experiment more accurate. To help with the random uncertainty of the accuracy of the equipment, I would use a burette to measure the volumes of the reactants as a burette has less of an uncertainty on it than a measuring cylinder. To increase the over all accuracy of the Arrhenius plot of the reaction I would repeat the experiment for a greater range of temperatures-though as this would lead to safety issues I would use a fume cupboard for any experiments above a temperature of 55 degrees Celsius. I would also rather than doing only five trials at each temperature I would increase this to ten to lower the uncertainty on the experiment and gain a more accurate average time taken for each trial at each temperature.

With the astonishing growth of the Internet, many Essays

With the astonishing growth of the Internet, many companies are finding new and exciting ways to expand upon their business opportunities. There are very few successful companies that do not use computers in their everyday business activities, which also means there are few companies that do not use e-commerce. To emphasize the point that the effect of the Internet is so widespread in today's business communities, one online article stated that more than 100000 companies have Internet addresses, and 20000 companies have home pages on the Internet as of February 1999 ( DataQuest , 1999). These numbers have more than tripled since 1995, and the trend shows no signs of slowing. But what exactly is e-commerce? To most casual Internet surfers, e-commerce means online shopping and workaholics pointing their web browser to Amazon.com to order an emergency present because they forgot someone's birthday again (Weiss, 1999). As we will soon find out, this is far from the case. Simply put, e-commerce is the exchange of business information between two or more organizations. An example of this would be buying and selling products or services over the Internet. E-commerce became very popular, soon after it proved to be an efficient means to conduct long distance transactions. The purpose of this report is to discuss some of the advantages and disadvantages e-commerce, as well as examining its potential for the future of business. Electronic commerce, or e-commerce has developed very rapidly in the last few years and has left some people wondering what it is all about. "Most people think e-commerce is just about buying and selling things over the Internet," said Wareham (Wareham, 2000). E-commerce is a broad term describing the electronic exchange of business data between two or more organizations computers. Some examples might be the electronic filing of your income tax return, on-line services like Prodigy, and on-line billing for services or products receive d. E-commerce also includes buying and selling any item over the Internet, electronic fund transfer, smart cards, and all other methods of conducting business over digital networks. The primary technological goal of e-commerce is to integrate businesses, government agencies, and contractors into a single community with the ability to communicate with one another across any computer platform (Edwards, 1998).

Protests Of America essays

Protests Of America essays On May 3, 1970 students of Kent State University rallied to protest Nixon ¹s announcement of war. There was violent protesting all through the night. Windows were broken, cars were destroyed, and buildings were burned to the ground. When the firemen arrived, their hoses were taken by students and used against them. At that point Governor James Rhodes called for the National Guard to come in and protect the campus. The following day Kent State University was under the protection of the Ohio National Guard. Around noon on that day, students protested. They were told to quit, but refused. The first action of the National Guard was to release tear-gas grenades upon the masses of students (Guard Fired in Self-Defense). These grenades were marginally successful, and only caused a temporary retreat. The students then responded by throwing concrete, rocks, and everything else they could find. December 5, 1955 Rosa Parks decides to keep her seat on the bus against a white person. This was the start of the African American protesting for the Civil Rights Movement. Martin Luther King was the leader of this movement by giving great speeches. During his great speech he was shot and killed. Soon African Americans were not segregated. In 1848 Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony pressed forward and protested to give women more rights. They wanted women to have the right to vote. They also wanted equal pay for both sexes. Also, they wanted to ban alcohol. With this protesting women have equal rights as men. Women have property rights now, they can vote, Also they can be politicians now. In 1775 the 13 colonies rebelled and protested against they British. This soon led to war and many were killed over differences. American rebelled because of the taxes. A Business Plan to introduce Clean City Ltd

A Business Plan to introduce Clean City Ltd This document serves as a Business Plan to introduce Clean City Ltd, a registered Limited Company that was formed in January 2010. The sole purpose of Clean City’s business will be to solely engage/enforce the sorting of garbage, its collection, transportation and delivery/disposal to recycling plants and dumping sites, our main focus being recycling plants. What is Waste Management? Waste management is the collection, transportation, processing, recycling or disposal, and monitoring of waste materials, while Recycling is the process of re-using a given product (beyond its intended use), or producing a new product from a recyclable material. Nairobi’s population is approximately 4 million, 44% Kenyans fall below the poverty line, meaning approximately three quarters of Nairobi’s population falls under the urban poor category. In Nairobi, approximately 1,530 tonnes of garbage is generated daily and as illustrated in the Pie Chart below, approximately 1,130 tonnes of garbage rots uncollected close to its source, or is burnt in homesteads, dumped at illegal landfills or dumpsites or is collected by Non Governmental Organisations and Community based groups. Due to economic hardships and the high rate of unemployment, we have seen an increase of people migrating from rural to urban areas in search of better prospects to support their immediate families and/or dependants, and more often than not, most of these people eventually reside in low class areas such as the Kibera Slums or Peri-urban areas such as Gachie, Ongata Rongai, etcetera. Approximately half of the Kenyan population is based in Nairobi, and most of these migrants find themselves close to fragile areas such as rivers, valleys, steep slopes and adjacent to sewers or dumps. Nairobi City Council whose mandate is to provide and sustain a clean and healthy environment in Kenya has been unsuccessful due to its failure to formulate and adopt clear and comprehensive strategies that take in to account all aspects of waste management; its reluctance to involve stakeholders and to educate the general public on taking responsibility for their garbage disposal; and its manner in which it has disseminated information on the inherent dangers of inadequate attention given to waste management, or lack thereof. The Council’s Systems and Methods adopted to manage solid waste have failed to conform to the minimum requirements stipulated in the Environment Management and Co-ordination Act (EMCA) 1999, Part 11, Section 3(i). Generally it is poor governance. It is very sad indeed to witness adult pedestrians, motorists and passengers’ alike, ditching rubbish on footpaths, streets and roads without giving a second thought to the negative effects of their actions and having no regard for the beauty of Kenyan’s Capital, the Green City in the Sun. Majority of our young citizens, that is, our children, who are our leaders of tomorrow, innocently litter anywhere and e verywhere outside their homes and/or school premises, and in many instances this habit grows uncorrected because these young impressionable children mirror what many of us adults do resulting in a vicious cycle. Many of Nairobi streets and footpaths are littered with rubbish ranging from maize cobs, cigarette butts, fruit skins to plastic papers.

Does the Fairtrade movement offer a viable model for a more ethical Essay

Does the Fairtrade movement offer a viable model for a more ethical trading system Choose one of the following sectors to explo - Essay Example Ethical trading is the umbrella term used to denote and describe all types of business processes or practices, which borders on promoting socially as well as environmentally responsible trade. This was stated by Narasaiah (2006, p.148), â€Å"Ethical trade is one dimension of corporate social responsibility, bringing social issues into the mainstream of commercial supply chain management through the use of codes of conduct.† Although, the term is also used to refer to the trade practices in an organization’s supply chain, instead of ethical trading, the term Fair Trade is being used to denote the ethical trade practices in the supply chain. Although, the words Ethical Trade and Fair Trade are synonymously used or sometimes interchangeably used, there is some clear distinction between the two words. â€Å"Ethical trade focuses on employment conditions of workers within global value chains, as distinct from Fair Trade which focuses primarily on producer prices and tradin g relationships. (Barrientos, Conroy and Jones, 2007, p.60). Thus, Fair Trade is a form of trading, where the well-being of weak actors or producers in the supply chain is taken care, through optimal trading practices. That is, the big players need to carry out ethical practices and indulge in ethical trading, so that the interests of the small players or traders are protected. What is more, the Fair trade movement also focus on reducing the poverty and improving the living standard of primary producers or farmers. Successful organization will try to incorporate a feasible model for a more ethical trading system and this is applicable to organizations in any sector, including the food and drink sector. So, in this article, the argument will be made and the reason will be given on why Fair trade has become a viable model for more ethical trading system. Role of Fair Trade Fair Trade had its origins way back in 19th century in the form of Cooperative movement among the traders. Howeve r, it evolved more in the mid part of the 20th century. That is, it began with the Mennonite Central Committee, U.S. based service entity, deciding to do trade with the poor communities in the South in the 1940s. From that beginning, it further expanded and become a "movement" in the 1960s and 1970s. (Moore 2004). Fair Trade is the term given to the trade that is authorised and overseen by certain unbiased organizational bodies, whose role is to see whether that trade happens fairly giving the due benefits to the producers in the supply chain. The four main organizational bodies which formulated the guidelines that constitute Fair Trade, and gives Fair Trade recognition to specific producers and buyers, thereby overseeing the Fair Trade practices are Fair Trade Labelling Organizations International (FLO), World Fair Trade Organization (or formerly International Fair Trade Association), Network of European Worldshops (NEWS!) and European Fair Trade Association. To further actualize a n omnipresent body, which can coordinate and oversee all the Fair Trade practices, these four bodies created together FINE (starting letters of the four) in 1998, an informal body â€Å"whose goal is to harmonize fair trade standards and guidelines, increase the quality and efficiency of fair trade monitoring systems, and advocate fair trade politically.† (articlesbase.com 2011). The games were used to demonstrate the power of the emperor and it made him much more popular and in return he received gratitude from society In such a cultural climate it is not surprising that gladiatorial games were immensely popular and a characteristic symbol of Roman culture for almost seven centuries. It may be no accident that the most dramatic increase in the popularity of gladiatorial games occurred during the first two centuries AD, when the Augustan peace throughout the empire provided little opportunity for citizens to participate in real warfare. The Roman games were the Emperors gift to society a way in which he could show he’s generosity to the people of Rome. In the opening scene, while Iago is expressing his dislike, rather hatred, for the general Othello for his having chosen Michael Cassio for the lieutenancy, he contrives a plan to partially avenge himself (â€Å"I follow him to serve my turn upon him†), with Roderigo’s assistance, by alerting Desdemona’s father, Brabantio, to the fact of his daughter’s elopement with Othello. Roderigo shares Iago’s prejudiced attitude toward Othello: â€Å"What a full fortune does the thicklips owe / If he can carry't thus!† The word thicklips is a disparaging reference to a facial characteristic of many members of the black race. When, by loud shouting, Brabantio is awakened, Iago commences with a series of racial epithets:    Zounds, sir, you're robb'd; for shame, put on   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   your gown;   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Your heart is burst, you have lost half your soul;   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Even now, now, very now, an old black ram   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Is topping your white ewe. Arise, arise;   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Awake the snorting citizens with the bell,   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Or else the devil will make a grandsire of you:   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Arise, I say. (1.1)    The phrase old black ram and the word devil both make reference in an offensive manner to dark skin color. The allusion to white ewe has the effect of putting Othello’s darkness into sharp contrast. A few lines later Iago once again turns his invective fully on Othello with three stinging racial epithets:      Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   'Zounds, sir, you are one of those that will not   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   serve God, if the devil bid you. Because we come to   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   do you service ... ... the blacker devil!      OTHELLO. She turn'd to folly, and she was a whore.      EMILIA. Thou dost belie her, and thou art a devil! (5.2)    Following Iago’s murder of Emilia, he is captured; Lodovico addresses Othello, who is so dejected at having been deceived by his ancient:      Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   O thou Othello, thou wert once so good,   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Fall'n in the practise of a damned slave,   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   What shall be said to thee? (5.2)    Needless to say, damned slave has racial overtones. Shortly thereafter, the hero, in remorse for the tragic mistake he has made, stabs himself and dies on the bed next to his wife, his sorrow being as deep as his love.    WORKS CITED    Shakespeare, William. Respiratory Infections In Developing Countries Health And Social Care Essay

Respiratory infections are prevailing worldwide and are straight responsible for morbidity and a important proportion of mortality, particularly in kids. The most common respiratory conditions include acute respiratory piece of land infections, asthma, pneumonia and bronchitis. Acute respiratory infections ( ARIs ) continue to be the taking cause of acute unwellnesss globally and remain the most of import cause of baby and immature kids mortality and morbidity, which accounts for about two million deceases every twelvemonth and ranks as the first cause of disability-adjusted life-years ( DALYs ) lost in developing states. The populations who are at maximal hazard for developing a fatal respiratory disease are the really immature, the aged, and the immunocompromised. Upper respiratory infections are really frequent but are seldom dangerous. Lower respiratory infections are responsible for more terrible unwellnesss like grippe, pneumonia bronchiolitis, asthma and bronchitis which are t he taking subscribers to acute respiratory infections mortality ( WHO Acute respiratory infections update, 2009 ) . Acute respiratory infections continue to remain among the chief causes of child mortality globally. Even in the general population, they are the taking cause of acute morbidities. Hospital records from high mortality provinces of India show that up to 13 % of inpatient paediatric deceases are due to ARI. Harmonizing to recent WHO/UNICEF study, approximately 20 % of deceases in kids under five old ages of age are due to acute lower respiratory tract infections like bronchitis, bronchiolitis and pneumonia. ( Vashishth.V, 2010 ) . Respiratory diseases histories for a significant proportion of mortality all over India with the upper limit reported in the Central States and the lower limit reported in the North Eastern part of the state. Respiratory infections histories for the 2nd largest ( 22 % ) cause of deceases among kids aged below five old ages. ( Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, 2003 ) . Most of the disease load in rural India is due to the respiratory diseases like asthma, bronchitis, TB ( TB ) and pneumonia. In low income scenes these diseases are chiefly attributed with exposure to indoor pollution, solid-cooking fuels, hapless lodging, low nutritionary position and hapless healthful conditions 1. The association of respiratory upsets with geographical part may be important with population denseness, industrial and fabric pollutants, and baccy ingestion. ( Ramanakumar, 2005 ) . Wheezing is one of the commonest symptoms of respiratory diseases in kids. Epidemiologic surveies conducted worldwide have shown that 10 to 15 per centum of babies start to wheeze during their first twelvemonth of life, and around 25 per centum of kids less than five old ages of age nowadays to their clinicians with wheezing. ( Fakhouri, 2007 ) . Nebulized medicines are an built-in portion of direction of many respiratory diseases. Nebulizing a drug is a extremely effectual method of presenting drugs straight into the lungs in the signifier of aerosol atoms, provided with the right equipment and gas flow is used with the appropriate drug. This method of medicine disposal has an added benefit that it has minimum side effects compared with other manners of intervention. Nurses play an of import function in the disposal of medicine via a atomizer in any wellness attention puting. 1.1 Need for the survey: Respiratory attention patterns are altering, and pull offing respiratory diseases in kids is a existent challenge to the medical fraternity. Many clinical surveies have shown that O bringing and nebulization of bronchodilators via a gas driven jet atomizers play a cardinal function in the intervention of wheezing. Children differ from grownups in more than merely their size ; they have, for illustration, different external respiration form, respiratory rate, tidal volume and air passage construction. Nebulization is one of the easiest and most efficient ways to administrate respiratory medicines in kids. Beta agonist remains the most commonly prescribed medicine for wheezing in kids by respiratory baby doctors and general baby doctors likewise since they are proved to be the most effectual drug in the intervention of airway obstructor in kids. Despite the fact that nebulization of drug is an of import portion of intervention in assorted respiratory diseases, small attending has been paid to the efficiency of O therapy during nebulizations. The restraints in the handiness of high flow O cylinders and high cost of equipment bound the everyday usage of this technique in most primary wellness attention puting in developing states. 1.2 Statement of the Problem: A COMPARITIVE STUDY TO ASSESS THE EFFECTIVENESS OF NEBULIZATION WITH AND WITHOUT OXYGEN IN IMPROVING THE RESPIRATORY STATUS OF CHILDREN WITH WHEEZING IN A SELECTED HOSPITAL, COIMBATORE: Symptoms of respiratory diseases like wheezing affect the normal pneumonic map and impair the wellness of the kids. The purpose of the survey is to better the pneumonic map through nebulization with O. The cardinal intent defines the quality of wellness desired to consequence or sustain in patients and specifies particular duty in caring for patients. The cardinal intent of this survey was the betterment in respiratory position by nebulization with and without O. The 2nd construct is prescription for the fulfilment of cardinal intent. The prescription is directing to a directing activity that will most likely to take to fulfillment of cardinal intent. A prescription indicates the wide general action which is appropriate to the execution of the action. In this survey nebulization with and without O was used for kids with wheezing and 25 kids were assigned to each therapy. The therapies were given for 15-20 proceedingss with on-going appraisal of respiratory parametric quantities like respiratory rate, wheeze mark, O impregnation, abjurations and dyspnea class. The 3rd construct is worlds which include five constituents aa‚ ¬ † the agent, the receiver, the end, the agencies and the model. The agent is the practising nurse and is characterized by personal properties capacities, capablenesss and committedness and here research worker is considered as the agent. The receiver, the patient is characterized by personal properties and jobs and here the kids have jobs like wheezing, tachypnoea, abjurations and dyspnea. The end is the coveted result to accomplish. Reduction in respiratory ailments was considered as the end of this survey. The average comprise the activities and devices through which the practician is enabled to achieve the end. The scene of the survey was paediatric OPD of GKNM Hospital, Coimbatore which is a 530 bedded superspeciality infirmary. Oxygen and compressed air were used to ease the therapies and the technique of usage of devices was explained to parents and kids before disposal of therapies. The therapies were given for 15-20 proceedingss. The model consists of homo, environmental, professional and organisational installations and infirmary was considered as model.

Realism Paper

Brandon Jackson There are many differences between realism and theatricalism. Realism consists of any type of play that is based off of real life events. And theatricalism is the complete opposite. It doesn’t consist of any real life events and they aren’t supposed to do such. Realism plays don’t have to have any sort of originality but they are normally written directly from real life events. When play writers are writing a realistic play they tend to write the play as common and close to everyday speech and actions of humans. Realistic plays almost always recall on flashbacks, which consist of scenes that occurred in the characters past.In realistic plays actors and actresses do not even look directly at the audience, many of times in these plays actors do not even acknowledge the audience’s presence in order to give it that realistic feel. Take the play Joe Turners come and gone for example the characters sway away from keeping in contact with the crowd and they make sure not to look at the audience for any reason. If I where to write a play on the realism of a high school students way of speaking, I would be sure to use a lot of slang in my speech to make it as realistic as possible. As said before the play Joe Turners come and gone is a great example of realism. The play shows the struggles of an African American family and consists of real live events like slavery and poverty. The characters are all working class who are barely making a living. Another realistic play, which consists of realistic event, is The Piano Lesson. Just like Joe Turner’s Come and Gone, the characters in The Piano Lesson are all working class African Americans working hard just to survive. The main character Boy Wille is so desperate for money he decides he wants to trade a piano that has been in the family for several years in order to acquire land for crop growing. But the play does use some theatricalism. Towards the end of the play they make a g host a ghost which many could agree isnt exactly realism. But even within the play they still seem to make the story very believable with a realistic. The same with The Last Five Years. This play and or musical are very realistic and utilize many different scenes of the everyday life of a married couple in Ohio.Unlike the Play Joe Turners come and gone, Angles in America is completely un realistic and is clearly imaginary. There are many aspects of Thearicalism found in this play. Nothing in this play is predictable and throughout the play the audience can be found both confused and some amazed by its creativity. Absurdism is another aspect of theatricalsim. Absurdism is the philosophical thought of people are meaningless and have no job or role in life. Many Fictional plays normally consist of some sort theatricalism and many Absurdism. Expersionalism is the thought of painting a picture with words and or in the form of a play. This can be seen in almost any play because theatre is a form or art and the main objective of any play is to paint a picture. But in any Thearticalism play the Every aspect of these plays are make believe, and they normally don’t consist of a true plot and or seem realistic. The use of Imagery and exaggeration and distortion can be found in just about any theatrical play. http://www. musicomh. com/theatre/last-five-years_0706. htm http://www. sparknotes. com/drama/piano/summary. html http://dictionary. reference. com/browse/theatricalism NOTES

Human Resource Development Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Human Resource Development - Essay Example Make sure all the employees know the aims and objectives of the training. They should be given proper feedback and supervisors should take an active interest in the employees, this promotes a sense of ownership. Keep training an ongoing process to facilitate ongoing improvement of employees of the company. Out of these, the most importantly will be, making the training relevant to each employee and promoting a sense of ownership of the company. This is because, when the employees have the feeling that the organization is caring for the needs they strive to perform better and give back to the organization. Making sure that the employees’ needs for development are taken care off is an important variable that most companies over-look and in that case training may not transfer back to the company. Secondly, if they have a high sense of ownership of the organization they are more likely to learn from the training and apply themselves for the betterment of the company. Question 6 Al though this still remains a very complex topic we have concluded that brain function seems to change as a result of the interaction of two opposing processes, one is the way the brain deteriorates with age, and the other is the way in which it continues to remodel itself in order to compensate for that change. Empirical and rigorous scientific evidence demonstrates that functional deterioration of many tissues begins in early adulthood and progresses throughout life. Other biological changes include changes in micro-vascular density, plasticity and the dynamic blood flow through the vasculature. What managers must understand that this reduced learning capability must be catered to if the training is to be affective. One of the biggest factors that supervisors must consider is the duration of the training. Older people have been known to have shorter concentration spans, hence the training sessions should incorporate regular breaks. This may increase the length of the training sessio n (and in most cases the cost too), however the learning is much better and will transfer back to the organization. Secondly, another important variable that they should understand is with regards to trainings on technological topics. Older people may tend to be slower in learning the different aspects hence their trainings should be at a slower pace. They should be encouraged to practice after the training sessions and understand the topics the way they feel comfortable. It is essential that the individuals not be over-burdened with too much information at once, as this reduces the affectivity of the training program. Question 7 The convergent manager looks to all the available sources of information and tries to find the best solution. However, there is a constant need for correct, consistent and reliable information. However, in the case of a divergent manager, there is a need to elaborate on ideas based on a creative stimulus. He looks to build on ideas that are generated intern ally. Divergent managers are more suited to creative thinking and problem solving. Similarly, convergent managers tend to favor informed decisions that are based on the best possible information available. A training session that should incorporate both styles would ask the managers to review a certain situation, look at all the information available on similar problems and then come up with the best solution which is unique and

Discussion Warren Buffet, the CEO of Berkshire Hathaway is also a stock market investor whose net worth is estimated at $58.5 billion as on 2013. Considered to be the most successful investor of his time, he is the largest shareholder of Berkshire Hathaway and has been ranked as the richest man of the world for many consecutive years. The person has remained loyal to the philosophy of value investing that he believed in throughout his life and followed meticulously. Along with the materialistic part o f his life it must also be mentioned that Buffet is a well acclaimed philanthropist. He had taken up a motto of donating 99% of his profits to the charity in form of donations. The person has been chosen for the discussion in this essay chiefly because his story would motivate a large number of entrepreneurs who are in the making. Since childhood Buffet has the passion for making money which he continued to pursue throughout the rest of his life. Buffet was lucky to have the securities analyst Benjamin Graham and David Dodd as his mentors in Columbia Business School and the education that he gathered from these two maestros helped him in his later phases of life (Hagstrom, 2005, p. 29). Warren Buffet as an Entrepreneur Various types of Entrepreneurship models are used by the businesses in the present day. The types of businesses have been depicted in the chart below. (Source: MIT Sloan Management Review, 2007, p. 77) The kind of ownership of the management in the organisation would determine the entrepreneurial style. On the other hand the source of the resources whether come in an ad hoc manner or through a pool of resources created by individuals in the corporate world determines the type of entrepreneur. Warren Buffet would come under the enabler model because the employees of Berksh ire Hathaway are provided with a lot of flexibility and support when they come up with their new ideas. They are encouraged to pursue their personal goals as long as they remain aligned with the goals of the organisation. Buffet has pursued this kind of model chiefly because of the fact that he himself has moved along in the path of freedom in the thought process and pursuing the field of
